It is no easy feat to preserve the quality of life that Delaware Township provides. One doesn’t need to go too far to see where shopping centers, condos and townhouses, multi-lane roads and paved lots have consumed towns, farms and fields. While we straddle a busy world of conveniences,
those of us who live here know it's the air, open space and peace of Delaware Township that restores us and makes us truly feel home.
That’s why we need candidates like Susan Lockwood and Kathy Klink on
the Delaware Township Municipal Committee.
My Story
For nearly 40 years, Susan Lockwood has dedicated herself to protecting the natural beauty, rural character, and quality of life that make Delaware Township a place worth calling home.
Susan and her husband, Russ, moved to Delaware Township almost four decades ago drawn by its open spaces, working farmland, rich history, and strong sense of community. She soon understood that preserving these qualities demands more than goodwill — it requires leadership, sustained effort, and a genuine commitment to public service.
As a member of the Delaware Township Committee and across three terms as Mayor, Susan has worked to balance responsible governance with environmental stewardship and fiscal discipline. She has championed shared services, protected open space, and fought to preserve the township's rural character — all while keeping the burden on taxpayers to a minimum.
Professionally, Susan is a wetlands and land-use specialist with the New Jersey Department of
Environmental Protection, where her work centers on protecting water quality, reducing flooding, and preserving critical wildlife habitats. She led New Jersey's successful effort to assume federal wetlands permitting authority — making the state one of only two in the nation to achieve that distinction.
Her volunteer record is equally extensive. Over the years, Susan has served on the Environmental Commission, Planning Board, and Shade Tree Commission; founded The Bridge community newsletter; coordinated Delaware Township's 175th Anniversary celebration; and helped establish the Delaware Township Historical Society. She also played a central role in the successful campaign against the PennEast Pipeline. Her contributions have earned recognition from both Delaware Township and the Sierra Club.
Susan holds a bachelor's degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and a master's degree from Penn State University. She is running for re-election to continue safeguarding the open spaces, historic character, and quality of life that have always set Delaware Township apart.
My Story
Raised on a family farm in Iowa as one of six children, Kathy Klink learned the values of hard work, stewardship, and community service from an early age. Those values have guided a lifetime of dedication to education, public service, and environmental conservation.
After moving to New Jersey in 1966, Kathy graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Teacher Librarianship from The College of New Jersey (then Trenton State College). In 1976, she made Delaware Township her home, where she has lived, worked, and served the community for nearly 50 years.
For 30 years, Kathy taught at Delaware Township School, inspiring generations of students, primarily as a middle school science teacher. Beyond the classroom, she coached soccer and basketball, advised the Environmental and Birding Clubs, and served as a leader in the Delaware Township Teachers Association.
At the same time, Kathy dedicated 44 years of service to Delaware Township government, working with the Board of Adjustment, Planning Board, and in numerous administrative roles that helped support the daily operations and long-term planning of the Township. She also served as Delaware Township's certified Recycling Coordinator from 2011 to 2022 and as its certified Clean Communities Coordinator from 2016 to 2022.
